Le genre littéraire du récit offre en effet à l’écriture de l’histoire des atouts décisifs, en particulier en termes d’explication causale. Les grands choix poétiques qui donnent forme au récit – construction de la voix narrative, temporalité, caractérisation des protagonistes, etc. – sont directement au service du type de causalité que le récit historiographique veut mettre en valeur. Le présent article étudie le rapport entre quelques traits majeurs de la poétique mise en œuvre dans l’historiographie biblique et le type de causalité que celle-ci promeut. Il s’agit de montrer comment une attention fine aux formes de la narration est une voie privilégiée pour appréhender le type d’histoire que le récit promeut et en particulier, pour la Bible, l’anthropologie et la théologie qui y sont liées. In the field of historiography, the last quarter of the 20th century has been marked by an emphasis on the narrative dimension. The narrative genre offers decisive assets for the writing of history, especially in terms of causal explanation. The principal poetic choices shaping the narrative – construction of the narrative voice, temporality, characterization of the protagonists, etc. – are directly related to the type of causality that the historiographical narrative intends to highlight. The present article examines the relationship between some major features of the poetics of biblical historiography and the type of causality it promotes. The purpose is to show how attention to forms of narration is a privileged way to apprehend the type of history that the narrative promotes and, particularly for the Bible, the anthropology and theology it entails. |
