Abstract :

The International Theological Commission, in its document on the principles of theology (2012), reminds us of the dual and classic structure of the latter, that is the auditus fidei and the intellectus fidei. Now, the considerations of the ITC, which have as their objective to maintain the unity of Catholic theology, seem to remain on the sidelines in a context where we expect more and more truth to be verified concretely and historically. Theology has fallen short for too long of attaining this verification for too long, because the fruits which her statements have been able to produce in the social life have not been integrated into her own development. The third principle, that of the fecunditas fidei, should enrich the theological method and give it a practical foundation. Building on the historical sciences, theology would gain in humility, but also in credibility.
