Appendagitis: a diagnosis to consider in a patient with a abdominal pain
A 68-year-old woman was admitted with pain in the lower left quadrant of the abdomen. She had been treated with antibiotics since ten days because of a presumption of diverticulitis. At physical examination of the abdomen, there was tenderness in both lower quadrants though without signs of peritoneal irritation. A blood analysis was unremarkable. A CT-scan of the abdomen showed a nodular lesion with fat density at the medial side of the left colon. It was diagnosed as appendagitis epiploica. Antibiotics were discontinued and the patient was treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Further clinical evolution was favourable.
