Abstract :
This is the first of a pair of articles exploring the much neglected issue of evaluation with respect to inter-faith initiatives. It begins by reviewing different types of inter-faith encounter and the current state of evaluation in the literature. It discusses the importance of evaluating the success of such events and proposes a framework and methodology for assessment adapted from an existing framework developed in the field of Interactive Conflict Resolution. The paper particularly addresses theologically focussed encounters, which, in terms of impact, have been the least studied. The later article will present a case study utilizing the framework to evaluate the Cambridge Inter-faith Programme summer schools that took place from 2011 to 2015.
