Due to the centennial there is renewed attention for the Belgian literature of World War One. The children’s literature on this subject, however, is unexplored territory. This study collected, to the extent possible, an exhaustive corpus of Flemish juvenile war fiction written both during the war and in the interwar period. The article explores on the one hand the dominant representations of war within this corpus and on the other hand it uncovers how this image of war is influenced by the fact that children (and not adults) are the intended audience.
