Document Details : Title: Locative and Extra-locative Clitics in Nyakyusa Author(s): PERSOHN, Bastian Journal: Africana Linguistica Volume: 23 Date: 2017 Pages: 151-165 DOI: 10.2143/AL.23.0.3256923 Abstract : This paper gives a descriptive account of enclitics occupying the post‑final slot of the verb in Nyakyusa (Bantu, M31). Nyakyusa has eight morphemes of the shape CV that occur in this slot: enclitic substitutives for each of the locative noun classes 16-18; a partitive and a comparative enclitic, both of which are homophonous with the substitutives of class 16; an indefinite enclitic homophonous with the substitutive of class 18, and two enclitic WH question words. Special attention is paid to the syntax of these enclitics and their uses with hosts of other categories, as well as to their semantic range, and their interaction with negation and frequent or lexicalized collocations. Cet article livre un compte rendu descriptif des enclitiques occupant la position postfinale du verbe en nyakyusa (Bantu, M31). Le nyakyusa comporte huit morphèmes de forme CV produite à cette position: substitutifs enclitiques pour chacune des classes 16 à 18 des noms locatifs; un enclitique partitif et un autre comparatif, tous deux homophones des substitutifs de la classe 16; un enclitique indéfini homophone du substitutif de la classe 18 et deux mots interrogatifs enclitiques. Une attention particulière est accordée à la syntaxe de ces enclitiques et à leurs utilisations conjointes à une foule d’autres catégories, ainsi qu’à leur catégorie sémantique, et à leur interaction avec la négation et les collocations fréquentes ou lexicalisées. |
