Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 115 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2002 Pages: 129-157 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.115.1.325 Abstract : Many Greek text editions of Chrysostom's Homilies are of a rather poor quality, as is the state of the Greek manuscript tradition. In order to create a decent text edition, one should make use of teh Syriac versions of his homilies. These Syriac texts are early translations and editions and could serve as a control for deciding between Greek variants or determining the antiquity of specific textual groups in the Greek tradition. This article reevaluates a number of manuscript using editions in both languages. |
