Hummel in 1941, in Chanlar, Western Azerbaijan, which brought to light the exceptional presence of deer and horses in the burials, along with other animals. These results remained unpublished for many years and then appeared only in a Soviet-era journal. The finds from Chanlar are exceptional, since they have no parallels in any other funerary context of this period in the Caucasus. The intriguing and important nature of the finds encourages further analysis of the coeval cultures of Central Transcaucasia and some thoughts about burial practices and cults. |
