Document Details : Title: Een nieuwe liturgische cultuur? Subtitle: Theologische overwegingen over de verwevenheid van Sacrosanctum concilium met de drie andere conciliaire constituties Author(s): GELDHOF, Joris Journal: Tijdschrift voor Theologie Volume: 53 Issue: 4 Date: 2013 Pages: 355-365 DOI: 10.2143/TVT.53.4.3203332 Abstract : This contribution takes its point of departure in recent literature about Sacrosanctum concilium where it is said that the reception of the theological content of Vatican II’s famous document on the liturgy so far has actually been quite marginal. Church historian M. Faggioli and theologian and liturgist P. Prétot each came to this conclusion in their own particular way. Moreover, they contended that the actual meaning and theological potential of Sacrosanctum concilium lies in its intrinsic connectedness with the other three conciliar constitutions, Dei verbum, Lumen gentium, and Gaudium et spes. The present article therefore takes on the challenge to interpret Sacrosanctum concilium ‘through’ the other documents. The concrete guiding question is what could contribute to ‘a new liturgical culture’ – a concept from W. Kasper. To explore that culture in line with what Vatican II said, three thematic fields are examined. First, the interrelatedness between revelation, tradition, liturgy, and the Bible is dealt with. Second, the roles of the Church and the sacraments in the life of faith are discussed. Third, the connection between liturgy, world, and culture is considered. The article concludes with the suggestion that a new liturgical culture has to correspond with the rich and variegated but at the same time unified theology of Vatican ii and that the development of that correspondence will be beneficial for both the liturgy and the theological reception of the council. |
