Abstract :

I aim to show firstly the effectiveness of the concept of intentionality in the use by the Aufbau of Husserl’s practice of reduction, and of his programme of constitution, while this programme in Carnap leads to a terminal neutralisation of the metaphysical meaning of an intentional relation. I then set out the role which the philosophical concept of constitution plays in the implementation of logical methods. I suggest the effectiveness of an intentional constitution as understood by Husserl, but armed with the methods of mathematical logic, by examining three series of indices drawn from the very exercise of the logical methods of the Aufbau. But we see in this way that this reference of Carnap’s intentionality to Aristotle’s distinction between the object and the intentional experience of sensation and of thought neutralises the ontological dimension of it bound in Aristotle to the metaphysical concept of energeia, and likewise to the categorial analysis of the relation here drastically reduced to a single «founded relation». Thus the meaning of an Aristotelian legacy in the field of intentionality is actually neutralised rather than constituted in the Aufbau.
