Three manuscripts contain a total of seven incomplete books of the Sapientiale, with an incomplete index of chapters, and the Comparatio sensibilium. In 90 years, scholars have not clearly identified the relationship between these two texts. This article aims to draw a connection between the Comparatio sensibilium and the Sapientiale, examining the subject matter dealt with by the two works in detail, starting from the first chapter of the Comparatio sensibilium. The two works exhibit the same overall structure, and, when dealing with the same topic, bear extensive portions of identical text. The analysis of the evidence aims to classify the Comparatio sensibilium as a primitive draft of the Sapientiale, a gateway to the intentions of its author. |
