Abstract :
Whereas the word JA (English ‘yes’) parallel to NEE (English ‘no’) is usually but incorrectly classified as interjection, there is a use not described so far in linguistic literature that falls within this class. The first form of use will be described here as a pronoun, JAz (for z = zin, English ‘sentence’) and the second as JAi (for i =’ interjection’). It is furthermore investigated whether the two are to be considered as homonyms or as one word having distinct functions and thus falling into different word classes.
