Abstract :
The study proposes to analyze the history and the theological significance of one of the most important interviews of Cardinal Leon-Joseph Suenens. The publication of May 15, 1969, published in Informations Catholiques Internationales, under the title 'Unity of the Church in the logic of the Vatican II', falls under the history of the post-council Church and according to its author, he largely wanted to reveal the idea of co-responsibility. The interview questioning the structure of the governance in the Church after the Council gives rise to a huge polemic in the Church. Our analysis shows the details of its drafting and the context of the crisis between the centre and the periphery of the Church which influenced the decision of the publication. The interview is situated at the limits of a pastoral battle of Cardinal Suenens for the Church where the manner of exerting authority recognizes the need for the implementation of the Episcopal collegial structure. Our analysis shows the strategy of Suenens to begin a debate on this subject before the Synod of October 1969. Also, the analysis shows how the Cardinal had to work out his plea. The wave of criticisms of the primate of Belgium came from within of the Church, in particular from cardinals belonging to the Roman Curia.
