J.-C.), Aristonikos fut l’un des premiers eunuques à jouer un rôle politique d’importance à la cour des Lagides. Diplomate et militaire de haut rang, cet homme d’exception sut notamment s’illustrer au combat en participant à la répression de plusieurs révoltes indigènes et acquérir une renommée certaine, à tel point qu’il supplanta par sa popularité le souverain régnant. Cette étude, réunissant des sources littéraires (Polybe) et archéologiques (décrets de synodes sacerdotaux), grecques et égyptiennes, se propose de reconstituer un tableau de ses titres auliques et militaires afin d’évaluer son rôle et son statut à la cour. Enfin, c’est à la lumière des récits historiques des décrets synodaux et de leur mise en perspective tant historique qu’idéologique que pourront être appréciées et son implication dans les événements du règne, et la gloire dont il s’est vu auréoler par les prêtres égyptiens. Today a not well known character from the reign of Ptolemy Epiphanes (204-180 BC), Aristonikos was one of the first eunuch to have played an important political role at the court of the Ptolemies. Diplomat and high military, this exceptional man excelled in combat, participating in the repression of several indigenous revolts to much acclaim, so much so that his popularity supplanted that of the reigning sovereign. This study, bringing together literary (Polybius) and archaeological sources (sacerdotal decrees of synods), Greek and Egyptian sources, proposes to define the courtly and military honours in order to assess his status and his role at the court. Finally, it is in light of the historical accounts of the synodal decrees and placing them in an ideological historical perspective that we can appreciated his involvement in the events of the reign and the glory with which he was crowned by the Egyptian priests. |
