Abstract :
In recent years, interdisciplinary approaches in literary studies such as celebrity culture and life writing have rekindled the interest in (auto)biographical writing. This article discusses the emergence of this approach in Dutch literary studies. Focusing specifically on the recent biography of Piet Mondriaan by Léon Hanssen, the question this article address is whether the life writing approach enables Dutch literary studies to contribute to an interdisciplinary field of Dutch studies in which literary methods are used to shed new light on the visual arts and modernism (Mondriaan and De Stijl).
