Abstract :
While the classicizing ‘Herodotean’ allusions in Priscus do not seriously affect the veracity of the historical information on the Huns found in Priscus, Jordanes’ ‘Herodotean’ account of the great battle between the Huns and the Romans at Chalons seriously distorts the history of that event with major historiographical ramifications. Much of Jordanes’ battle narrative, contrary to popular belief, does not derive from Priscus’ account of the Hunnic invasion of the Western Roman Empire.
