Abstract :
Today many Christian marriages and families exist in an evolving and secular world. Numerous members of the Catholic Church may feel their spiritual needs are not being addressed, and therefore are no longer identifying with the Church, or in some cases are joining other communities of faith. There are many areas of spiritual renewal affecting the Church including priestly training as well as the role of women and the laity within the Church. Other areas of renewal that are discussed in this article are the role of the conscience, family as domestic church, the ecumenical dimension, and a realistic look at what a modern day family looks like for many cultures, including the diversity of family in Western cultures. Another element that is addressed is the role of pastoral guidance for ministers and parents. The pastoral guidance encompasses the spiritual inputs of christian households. Some spiritual inputs can include the biblical culture, and the undeveloped possibilities for the parish priests and laypersons. Dialogue and the voice of the baptized person, including the laity remain crucial while discerning our faith within tradition in the topic of marriage and the family.
