Abstract :
There are two distinct stem melodic patterns in Símákonde disjoint verb forms: penultimate melodies (H, L, LH and LHL) and a (macro)stem-initial melodic high that is assigned to the left edge of the stem or of the macrostem. Tone doubling occurs only within the stem, but not on the penult. In a few tenses, the subject marker has a high tone that is realized on the subject marker and undergoes unbounded spreading to the following syllables of the pre-stem.
