Abstract :
Kastraki (or Kastelli) Keratitsas is an extensively fortified site located in the central Parnon mountains of Laconia, in a small limestone plain north of the modern village of Ayios Dimitrios Zarakos. The site was discovered in 2005 and has been the subject of architectural study and detailed mapping (2010-2012). All surface evidence noted at and around the site dates to the Early Helladic period. Kastraki Keratitsa is now the second fortified site of this period known in Laconia, after Geraki. The study of Kastraki calls attention to the Early Helladic world beyond the coastal areas and fertile lowlands and beyond the better known core regions of the Argolid or Attica, Boeotia and Euboia in Central Greece.
