Abstract :
Analysis of certain noteworthy hieroglyphic orthographies found in Graeco-Roman texts: (1) the goddess Meret writes the verb ini, 'to bring', due to her characteristic exclamation during royal running scenes (ii ini); (2) the wesekh-collar can also have the phonetic value m(3)ḥ, since it is technically a floral wreath; (3) varied explanations for a peculiar writing of the divine name Shu (spitting mouth + mountain), which may derive from an equally puzzling Demotic spelling; (4) an exclusively Graeco-Roman term for dance (wrh/wrḥ) may derive from Greek ὀρχει.
