Author(s): ANDREATOU, Melpomeni
Volume: 19 Issue: 1 Date: 2013
Since 1989, rescue excavations at the town of Fiskardo, in the north of Kefalonia on the peninsula of Erissos, have yielded spectacular monuments dating from the 1st century BC into Early Christian times. Private houses as well as public buildings have been excavated. In addition, a Roman cemetery has been discovered, with numerous monumental tombs of different type. The monumental public structures in particular, among which are a theatre or odeion and a bathhouse, are evidence of a prosperous Roman city, that can be identified as the town Panormos.
