In Ancient Babylonia like in other ancient and modern cultures plants are the ingredients of medicaments par excellence. The present article discusses remedies consisting of one single ingredient that are employed as contraceptives, to cause abortion, and to ensure conception, fecundity, and fertility; special attention is drawn to the use of coded or secret names for healing plants in the context of abortion. On ne peut concevoir la médecine sans la connaissance des plantes qui servent à guérir. Dans la Babylonie ancienne, comme dans d’autres cultures anciennes ou modernes, les plantes cultivées sont des ingrédients par excellence à utiliser comme médicaments. Le présent article discute des remèdes consistant en un ingrédient simple, employés comme contraceptifs, pour causer l’avortement ou pour assurer conception, fécondité et fertilité ; une attention particulière s’attache à l’utilisation de noms codés ou secrets pour les plantes qui servent à guérir, dans le contexte de l’avortement. |
