La formation de cette branche et de sa nouvelle lignée de maîtres représente le principal élément de renouveau de l’ordre au Deccan au cours de la première modernité. À Hyderabad, les ni‘matullāhī ne reçoivent pas le soutien de la dynastie chiite des Quṭb Šāh, en dépit du lien de son fondateur avec les ni‘matullāhī d’Iran. Ils jouissent ensuite de la dévotion de plusieurs personnages nobles de la ville à l’époque des Niẓām, tel Ma‘ṣūm ‘Alī Šāh Dakanī (m. 1211/1797 environ), qui est envoyé en Iran pour y revivifier l’ordre. Son maître, Šāh ‘Alī Riżā (m. 1215/1801), est regardé comme l’architecte de ce dessein du rayonnement de l’ordre vers l’Iran; cependant, les biographies de soufis du Deccan nous offrent un portrait de cette figure qui se révèle être assez différent de celui transmis par les sources iraniennes. This article looks at the history of the Ni‘matullāhiyya Sufi order in the Deccan region of India and at the Ni‘matullāhī centre which is established in Hyderabad by ‘Imād al-Dīn Maḥmūd al-Ḥusaynī (d. 1100/1689), a Shi’a of Iraqi origin who was initiated at Bidar. The development of this branch and of its new line of masters represents the main element of renewal of the order in the Deccan during the early modern period. At Hyderabad the Ni‘matullāhīs did not receive the support of the Shiite dynasty of the Quṭb Šāhs, in spite of the relation of its founder with the Ni‘matullāhīs of Iran. They enjoyed later the devotion of several nobleman of the city during the period of the Niẓāms, such as Ma‘ṣūm ‘Alī Šāh Dakanī (d. ca. 1211/1797), who was sent to restore the Ni‘matullāhī order in Iran. His master Šāh ‘Alī Riżā (d. 1215/1801) is considered the architect of the plan aiming to restore the Ni‘matullāhiyya in Iran, however the biographies of the Deccan Sufis give us a portrait of this figure that is quite different from the one given by the Iranian sources. |
