Abstract :
L’auteur aborde la crise de la transmission religieuse par les canaux traditionnels en Occident comme une invitation à déplacer les évidences anciennes. En particulier, Tom Beaudoin cherche du côté des formes très contemporaines de culture populaire des espaces de création pour un nouveau langage. Les nouveaux médias apportent un vocabulaire et un style particuliers pour communiquer sur tous les domaines, d’une autre manière, dans un autre environnement: pluraliste, laïc et tolérant.



The crisis of affiliation in western Roman Catholicism is an opportunity for catechesis to rethink its engagement with the practical sources of information and inspiration for a great many people: the material of popular media culture. At the same time, this new engagement becomes an occasion for catechesis to reconsider its own fundamental sources in the Christian tradition, as cultural materials built out of the 'popular cultures' of antiquity. The courage for both inquiries, 'without' and 'within', will position the catechist to be able to meet with the necessary clarity, frankness and sophistication the challenge of teaching about Christianity in a pluralistic, 'secular', and popular culture saturated age. Catechists are not alone in this quest, and can take comfort from three theological developments over the past decade: the study of 'deconversion', of 'ordinary theology', and of 'multiple religious belonging'. Learning from these developments about gaining a critical vantage on faith in contemporary culture, catechesis can perhaps enjoy a more practical and hopeful relationship to contemporary people and to the cultural setting that is increasingly characteristic of the West.
