Abstract :

The aim of catechesis is to bring someone into a relationship of intimacy with Christ, and through him with the Father and the Spirit. This new life transforms people and Christian communities, leading them to the heart of faith that is the Paschal mystery, and to welcoming the Kingdom of God that is already here and yet still to come. The transformation of the world which catechesis invites us to is situated in this fertile space, in this tension that leads to personal and collective commitment, and through that commitment to the gift of one’s life, following the example of Christ, for the love of the Father and of the least of God’s creatures. This process involves a conversion of one’s point of view, to love this world as God loves it, by a Paschal reading of events, by an initiation into Catholic social thought, and by the recognition that it is always God who takes the initiative in salvation, in the manner and at the time of God’s choosing.
