Abstract :

In francophone Belgium as elsewhere, the changes taking place within Christian communities require a reorganisation of the territorially based pastoral ministry, one that takes into consideration our current resources, of course, but also the sociological trends linked to the increasing mobility of people today. Parish clustering is far from complete, but we can already draw a few lessons from the current process. The exercise will only be fruitful if it abandons a mentality of recession or restructuring and adopts a new pastoral paradigm. It is essential to leave behind any desire to fit the process into a box or frame, and focus instead on rediscovering the core of our mission, drawing upon the sacramentality of the Church as proposed by Vatican II.
