Le premier critère d’action a été l’appui sur des données civiles (densité démographique, délimitations administratives). Mais deux modèles ont pris naissance: l’un privilégie le statu quo, les laïcs remplaçant peu à peu les clercs, qui deviennent tous curés; l’autre restituant aux laïcs la distribution des biens symboliques qui leur sont propres. Il en résulte une nouvelle distinction (sociologique) entre sacré et profane, les baptisés produisant un sacré non clérical. Les prêtres, de leur côté, pourraient trouver une nouvelle assise de leur autorité ministérielle, qui ne tiendrait plus à leur ancrage territorial, mais à leur statut d’envoyés. The demographic implosion among the clergy is the primary reason for the reorganisation of parishes in France. The first criterion for action was reliance on population data (demographic density, administrative boundaries). Two different models have come to be used: one that privileges the status quo, with laypeople gradually replacing the clergy, who in turn all serve as pastors; the other that restores to the laity the distribution of the symbolic good that are proper to them. The result is a new (sociological) distinction between sacred and profane, with the baptised producing a sacred that is non-clerical. Priests, for their part, could find a new foundation for their ministerial authority that is no longer based on their territorial position but on their status as envoys. |
