Abstract :

In the diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg, which covers the bulk of francophone Switzerland, the creation of pastoral units (UP) served by mixed pastoral teams (priests, deacons, religious, lay pastoral ministers, volunteers) has been accompanied by an in-depth reflection on the proclamation of the faith and of the way ministry can help engender church life. The principal challenges remain those of integrating Church members of immigrant origin (40% of all Catholics!), aided in particular by a few multicultural UPs; an effective coordination between territorial and thematic parish teams who work in the same pastoral field; and above all the maintenance and development of a neighbourhood ministry within small communities (local community councils), that are not stifled by the larger entities. The first experiments in this regard (over more than seven years) presage a promising outcome of increased co-responsibility and a spirit of synodal collaboration and communion.
