Edmund Journal: Studia Iranica Volume: 31 Issue: 1 Date: 2002 Pages: 79-102 DOI: 10.2143/SI.31.1.279 Abstract : The Sarhadd region of southeastern Persia, now within the modern province of Baluchistan and Sistan, is a mountainous region which has until modern times guarded a high degree of independence vis-à-vis neighbouring powers and, latterly, the Qâjâr Shâhs of Persia. Information on the Sarhadd is very sparse for the mediaeval period, but in the later nineteenth century, Qâjâr officials and governors provide descriptions. The central government in Tehran tried to exercise greater direct control there, but with little success until the time of Ridâ Shâh Pahlavî. Meanwhile, during the First World War, the Sarhadd played a small, peripheral part in the struggle between the Allies and the Central Powers, with a British military force from India campaigning there. L'article retrace l'histoire de la région du Sarhadd, un massif montagneux dans la Perse du sud-est, faisant actuellement partie de la province de Béloutchistan et Sistan. Le Sarhadd a pu conserver à travers les siècles un haut degré d'indépendance vis-à-vis des grandes puissances voisines et, notamment, au XIXe siècle, des chahs Qâjârs de la Perse. Nous possédons très peu d'informations au sujet du Sarhadd à l'époque médiévale, mais au XIXe siècle plusieurs fonctionnaires et gouverneurs des chahs nous fournissent des descriptions de la région. Le gouvernement central de Téhéran essaya de renforcer le contrôle direct sur le Sarhadd, mais sans beaucoup de succès avant le règne de Ridâ Shâh Pahlavî. Pendant la Première Guerre Mondiale, le Sarhadd prit une part modeste dans la lutte entre les Alliés et les Puissances Centrales : un détachement britannique venant de l'Inde fit campagne dans le Sarhadd même. |
