Shapur Journal: Studia Iranica Volume: 31 Issue: 1 Date: 2002 Pages: 7-45 DOI: 10.2143/SI.31.1.275 Abstract : On the basis of a King List and several allusions in medieval sources, many scholars have insisted that an authentic Zoroastrian "tradition" placed Zoroaster in the sixth century B.C. This theory was demolished in 1977 but recently Professor Gherardo Gnoli has restated it in great detail and with seemingly sound arguments. A careful examination of his Zoroaster in History shows that he has not succeeded. Similarly, Peter Kingsley's hypothesis of a Greek origin of that tradition is shown to be unfounded. En se fondant sur une liste royale et plusieurs allusions dans les sources médiévales, nombre de chercheurs ont considéré qu'une" tradition" zoroastrienne authentique a placé Zoroastre au VIe siècle avant n. è. Démontée en 1977 par l'auteur de cet article, cette théorie a été reprise récemment par le Professeur Gherardo Gnoli qui l'expose en détail et avec des arguments apparemment solides son Zoroaster in History. Pourtant, un attentif examen critique de montre que son argumentation n'est pas convaincante. De même, l'hypothèse formulée par Peter Kingsley de la genèse grecque de cette tradition s'est révélée être sans fondement. |
