Document Details : Title: 'Auf dem Weg zu Heilung und Erneuerung' Subtitle: Eine Tagung in der Gregoriana zum sexuellen Missbrauch in der Kirche Author(s): ZOLLNER, Hans Journal: ET-Studies Volume: 2 Issue: 2 Date: 2011 Pages: 299-308 DOI: 10.2143/ETS.2.2.2172275 Abstract : The Symposium Towards Healing and Renewal, which took place at the Pontifical Gregorian University from 6-9 February 2012, was intended to help bishops, religious superiors, and others with special responsibility towards the honest examination of conscience requested by the Pope and to be a stimulus for personal and ecclesial renewal. This Symposium was another step in a long and painful journey that the Church intends making to deal with the 'open wound' of abuse (Benedict XVI). From the beginning this initiative received explicit support and concrete help from the relevant Departments of the Vatican. The 220 speakers and participants came from all parts of the world. The organizers intended the Symposium to reach the following goals, among others: – to give a voice to the victims of abuse and to name honestly the failure, guilt, and the terrible things that have occurred in the Church; – to contribute to a culture of listening and learning, so as to seek together for solutions to the problem of abuse in the future; – to collaborate with the media and to make known what can be done to protect the weakest from aggression. Strong commitment and perseverance will be needed from all in the Church to accept their responsibility for the past and to work for a better future. The founding of the 'Centre for Child Protection' of the Institute of Psychology of the Gregorian University can be seen as a further step in sustaining such efforts. This Centre, based in Munich, will develop an e-learning-program over a period of three years, i.e. a learning-platform on the internet in several languages. In collaboration with project partners in all continents it is hoped to sharpen attention on abuse in the Church and in society. |
