Document Details : Title: A Matter of Method (II) Subtitle: 2 Cor 4,13 and the Recent Studies of Schenck and Campbell Author(s): LAMBRECHT, Jan Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 86 Issue: 4 Date: 2010 Pages: 441-448 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.86.4.2062423 Abstract : In separate articles both Kenneth Schenck and Douglas A. Campbell maintain that in 2 Corinthians 4,13 Paul interprets his quotation from Ps 115,1 LXX ('He believed, therefore he spoke') in christocentric terms: 'Jesus believed, therefore Jesus spoke'. According to these authors Paul is taking in consideration the narrative of the whole psalm. The present study pleads for a rather simple comparative understanding: Paul has the same state of mind, the same spirit of faith as the psalmist; no attention appears to be given the psalmist’s narrative. |
