Document Details : Title: Mères seules et pères seuls à Paris et à Milan Subtitle: Continuités et variations Author(s): RUSPINI, Elisabetta Journal: Marriage, Families & Spirituality Volume: 15 Issue: 2 Date: 2009 Pages: 180-194 DOI: 10.2143/INT.15.2.2047106 Abstract : The paper summarizes the results of a research project which has been undertaken to compare different forms of single-parenthood in the urban regions of Paris and Milano. Single-parent families have always been heterogeneous but their characteristics have massively changed since they are predominantly caused by separation rather than by widowhood as was the case in the past. As a matter of fact, single-parenthood can take on various forms: teen mothers, unmarried mothers, fathers who bring up children on their own, early widows and widowers, separated or divorced parents, gay and lesbian parents, trans parents. The research focuses on the following questions: how is this complex set of single-parenthood related to the social context in the urban milieu? And how does the urban administration (in Paris and Milano respectively) respond to the increasingly diversified needs of single parent families? |
