Abstract :
In recent, especially German, scholarship on the theory and practice of literary reviewing, it has been common practice to pay attention to the role that is (or may be) performed by the internet as a medium for reviewing. This research, however, tends to be of an exploratory nature and is certainly not always empirically grounded or relevant. In the Netherlands, there has hardly been any scholarly research into the role of the internet in literary reviewing. This contribution studies three important factors in the relationship between literary reviewing and the new medium: the internet reader, the internet critic, and the degree to which this new phenomenon has been institutionally embedded. The conclusion is that, as far as all three points are concerned, the role of literary reviewing on the internet in the Dutch language region is (as yet) a minor one.
