Abstract :
This article deals with the history of Spiegel der Letteren. In 2008 the journal celebrated its fiftieth birthday. The present contribution discusses the three periods that can be distinguished: the initial years with publishing house De Sikkel (1956-1983); the middle period with publishing house Peeters (1984-2000) in which the journal professionalized and started with thematic issues; and the current period (still with Peeters), in which Spiegel der Letteren rejuvenated itself. Certain focal points have remained the same throughout: the theoretical and methodological concerns, the study of Dutch literature of all periods, and the comparative perspective.
