While the focus is clearly on the international Lutheran-Catholic dialogue, it also points to the national dialogues: the many valuable contributions of the American dialogue, the work of the Groupe des Dombes in France, and various German projects including 'The Condemnations of the Reformation Era – Do they still divide?' and 'Communio Sanctorum.' Significantly, the article attempts to respond to the challenge for doctrinal ecumenism presented by the newly developing interest in spiritual ecumenism. It concludes by frankly exploring the framework for ongoing dialogue between Lutherans and Catholics in light of recent controversial documents. |
