This shift can be linked to the declining influence of the theory of Even-Zohar on translations and the current importance of Bourdieu’s vision on human effort in connection to the role of the translator as cultural transmitter. A transformation which is evidently consequence of the debate on structure versus agency. This contribution aims to take on Bourdieu’s theory in order to describe the effect on the transmission of culture caused by the effort and personal influence of the translator. It points out that this process is not merely done by the translation on itself. In a case study Gerard Rasch will be used as a model. He can be held accountable for the greater part of the introduction and the acknowledgement of the Polish literature in the Netherlands. This article investigates the outcome of his personal involvement in relation to the theory of Bourdieu. |
