Toutefois, on n’a jamais pu donner une explication satisfaisante des nombreuses défaillances du mètre. Les règles récemment édictées par Eric Pirart en vue de préciser la manière de compter les syllabes constituent un principe régulateur évident, mais encore trop imparfait. L’explication des irrégularités pourrait être cherchée dans le réaménagement formulaire progressif des textes. In two papers published in the years 1980, Gilbert Lazard definitely showed that, according to Geldner’s old thesis, the metrical parts of Young Avesta were composed in octosyllables, without regards to word accent and vowel quantity. It was however never possible to give a satisfactory explanation to the numerous irregularities of the metre. The phonetical rules recently defined by Eric Pirart improve the method for counting the syllables, but the metrical irregularity of the texts remains too largely imperfect. This unpleasing and enigmatic situation has probably its origin in the progressive stages of rhetorical restructuration of the texts. |
