Abstract :
Shortly before 1260 the Old French romance Partonopeu de Blois was adapted in Middle Dutch. In this adaptation the Middle Dutch poet twice inserted the word reinaerdie. These might be deliberate intertextual references to the animal epic Van den vos Reynaerde, which invited the medieval audience to compare the stratagems and deceptions in this romance to the tricks of the famous fox.
