Which accents do they get in Dutch literature? How does their topography form the mental mappings of archetypal patterns of life and death, desire and loss? How are they interwoven in the texture of the labyrinth? Each of these cities is the material inscription of the European history and imagination and illustrates a specific topos with its own rhythm and rituals, with images of being and seeming, expressed in the motif of the ‘Doppelgänger’, in the motif of the masque. How do they refer to each other paradigmatically? Which mirrors are reflected? Which motifs have been developed in the turn of the century? How do ‘black swans’ glide in the ‘golden dawn’ and do ‘dark ghosts’ appear in the ‘white nights’? Which mirror is presented here? How can words reflect the images? |
