Author(s): FIRSOVAITE, Vida , DE SUTTER, Johan , DUYTSCHAEVER, Mattias , TAVERNIER, Rene Journal: Acta Cardiologica Volume: 61 Issue: 5 Date: October 2006 Pages: 573-576 DOI: 10.2143/AC.61.5.2017775 Abstract : Supraventricular tachycardias (atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, incessant atrial tachycardia and permanent junctional reciprocating tachycardia) and incessant idiopathic ventricular tachycardias are known causes of tachycardiomyopathy (TCMP). These arrhythmias are in general resistant to antiarrhythmic drugs (AAD) that should be used cautiously in the presence of a depressed cardiac function. Successful radiofrequency (RF)-catheter ablation of these arrhythmias has been shown to resolve the symptoms and reverse the TCMP with very few adverse events. Frequent isolated ventricular premature beats (VPB) are considered to be benign and in general require no specific therapy. This report describes a patient with VPB induced dilated CMP that was completely reversible after successful RF-catheter ablation. |
