Document Details : Title: The Water Supply of Constantinople Subtitle: A Topographic Study of Water Supply, Water Storage, Water Consumption and the Sewage System in the Byzantine Period Author(s): DEVILLE, Tom Journal: Terra Incognita Volume: 1 Date: 2006 Pages: 81-87 DOI: 10.2143/TI.1.0.2015270 Abstract : In contrast with Rome, the capital of the west, Constantinople, its Eastern Roman counterpart, remains fairly unexplored. Only a few monuments, dating to the Byzantine period, are well-documented. The rest have hardly been investigated. The present research seeks to improve the knowledge of water supply and storage, also taking into consideration water consumption and the sewage system. Due to financial and time-related shortcomings this investigation relies mostly on literature rather than on new evidence collected on the site. |
