Abstract :
How much evidence is needed before experiments can be turned into medical practice? Some twenty-five years ago I had to treat a very complex life-threatening arrhythmia. No available drug was known to be a priori successful for treatment of this arrhythmia. I decided to use a promising new anti-arrhythmic drug I had a large experience with but which had never been used in such a setting. I injected the drug and the rhythm returned to normal. This proved that my a priori assumptions about the possible benefit of the treatment were reasonable.
