Redemptorist Father Timothy Buckley, publishing director of Redemptorist Publications and author of What Binds Marriage? Roman Catholic Theology in Practice, a 1997 study on marriage commissioned by the bishops of England and Wales, reviews the document’s presentation of sexuality, marriage, and family. While he praises the positive, gentle tone and broad compass of the text, he finds some weaknesses: the teaching strictly follows traditional Roman Catholic lines; however, the document does not reflect current debates and struggles in the pastoral application of these teachings. |
