A tripartite temporal paradigm is established. By text-linguistic analysis the construction can be shown to have the function of non-narrative discourse according to the terminology of Weinrich. The roots of the construction are traced back to Middle Egyptian and the possibility of functional borrowing in demotic literary texts is raised. |
