Title: Die Konstruktion des Infinitivs in der Cleft Sentence
Author(s): QUACK, Joachim Friedrich
Journal: Revue d'Égyptologie
Volume: 42 Date: 1991
The construction of the infinitive in the cleft sentence is studied on the base of the available demotic examples. A tripartite temporal paradigm is established. By text-linguistic analysis the construction can be shown to have the function of non-narrative discourse according to the terminology of Weinrich. The roots of the construction are traced back to Middle Egyptian and the possibility of functional borrowing in demotic literary texts is raised.
