Document Details : Title: Contribution à la prosopographie des cadres militaires du Moyen Empire Author(s): CHEVEREAU, Pierre-Marie Journal: Revue d'Égyptologie Volume: 43 Date: 1992 Pages: 11-34 DOI: 10.2143/RE.43.0.2011268 Abstract : Most nautical titles of the Old Kingdom are still attested in the navy of the Middle Kingdom. However, the number of 'god's sealers' (ḫtmw ntr), 'boat-captains' (imy-irty) and 'seconds in command' (sḥd wi3/'ḥ'w) is lowering. In compensation, the title 'overseer of the fleet' (mr 'ḥ'w) is more often mentioned in the documents and a new class of subalterns, 'chief of the crew of the Ruler' (3tw n tt ḥḳ3) takes an important place in the navy. |
