Most nautical titles of the Old Kingdom are still attested in the navy of the Middle Kingdom. However, the number of 'god's sealers' (ḫtmw ntr), 'boat-captains' (imy-irty) and 'seconds in command' (sḥd wi3/'ḥ'w) is lowering. In compensation, the title 'overseer of the fleet' (mr 'ḥ'w) is more often mentioned in the documents and a new class of subalterns, 'chief of the crew of the Ruler' (3tw n tt ḥḳ3) takes an important place in the navy.
