Abstract :
Nutrition is one of the major determinants of the mortality rates of populations. Nutritional factors are related to the slope of the Gompertz equations relating ln mortality rates to age between the ages of 35-74 y. Social class is also a determinant of mortality including cardiovascular mortality. It thus seems logical to examine whether differences in nutritional intakes exist between the social classes, which could explain part of the existing differences in mortality.
