Document Details : Title: 'For Better, For Worse' Subtitle: International Media Project on Marriage Today Author(s): DICKMANN, Ulrich Journal: Marriage, Families & Spirituality Volume: 7 Issue: 1 Date: 2001 Pages: 138-141 DOI: 10.2143/INT.7.1.2004543 Abstract : Everybody is aware that nowadays marriage as a permanent lifelong community of man and woman appears to be losing its role as the quintessential socially accepted way of life. That a man and a woman should marry if they love each other and want to live together is today no longer something that is taken for granted. Moreover successful marriages in which people grow old together seem to have become rather the exception than the rule. This is at least the impression conveyed by a study of current divorce statistics and the experience of failing marital or non-marital long-term relationships in our milieu. The media – newspapers, books and the TV – are full of such disaster stories and seem to regard marriage as being in the throes of a crisis. |
