Abstract :
In the summer of 2003 the government of Canada drafted new marriage legislation proposing to redefine marriage to include same-sex couples. The national debate and the judicial review of the bill has elicited strong responses from all sectors of society, including the Catholic Church. Monica Sandor, research staff member at INTAMS and a Canadian citizen, outlines the terms of the debate and analyses the various statements by the Catholic bishops on the question.
