Document Details : Title: Observance of the 10th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family Author(s): CROWLEY, Peter Journal: Marriage, Families & Spirituality Volume: 10 Issue: 1 Date: Spring 2004 Pages: 141-143 DOI: 10.2143/INT.10.1.2004390 Abstract : The UN and its institutional components have called for the commemorating in 2004 of the tenth anniversary of the UN’s first International Year of the Family (IYF). As the essential social unit of every society, the family must be protected and its well-being cultivated to ensure the sustainability and development of societies. To this end, the objectives of the first IYF – a sustained, long-term effort to increase awareness of family issues, to implement policies in support of families, and to promote international activities that focus on the well-being of the family or its individual members – remain as important and timely as ever in this second International Year of the Family. The chairperson of the Vienna NGO Committee on the Family gives an overview. |
